The news junkie that I am, I was browsing through the articles, when
this one caught my attention.
For the past 300 years, we have sent our young men off to fight and sometimes to die for us, and when they've returned, we've acknowledged their sacrifice. It's only been in the last 40 years that we've sent female soldiers along with our men. During Vietnam, they went as Nurses and clerks, staying way behind the front lines. However, in the last 10 years, we've sent them out to fight with the guys.
As the article brings to account, with the battlefield of today, the front lines are tenuous or non-existent, and our brave women have had to pick up guns and fight alongside the guys. They've even been subjected sexual harassment and, even though it might not be admitted, even rapes.
Now, when they come home, they are treated worse than the men. For, you see, we often stop the men and buy them a beer, or thank them for their service. But, for some unfathomable reason, we ignore the women in uniform, or relegate them to the background. That really has to stop. If the women are risking their lives, alongside the guys, then we should treat them the same way. We should provide for them, thank them, and make sure that they lack for nothing.
Men have had 300 years to erect the barriers that protect their minds from post traumatic stress disorder, and these brave women haven't had the same time, and it's not fair to ignore them. Like them, all I'm suggesting is equal treatment. Take care of them like you do the guys.
